As we approach a new year we thought we would would look back at some of our achievements from the last

  1. We have collaborated with Solace Women’s Adi to produce the SOS Supporting Older Survivors toolkit. Found HERE
  2. We disseminated 2,200 hard copies of our practitioner guidance, now available in e-version via our website HERE
  3. We have co-produced a short film “Do you see me” with older LGBTQ+ victim-survivors. To book a viewing for your organisation please contact choice@aber.ac.uk
  4. We have partnered with SafeLives to deliver “The Older Person’s Violence Adviser (OPVA)” specialist training for IDVA’s supporting older victim-survivors.
  5. With funding from The National Lottery Fund Wales in the last 12 months we have trained 1,638 volunteers and practitioners, improving the response to older victim-survivors and bringing our grand training total to over 13,000 practitioners across the UK.
  6. With funding from Comic Relief we have trained 388 practitioners and held online forums to discuss domestic abuse in later life. We have produced a short film exploring the co-existence of domestic abuse and dementia and a practitioner toolkit, Coming to our website soon!!
  7. In the last six months, we have provided intensive support for 34 older females and 14 older males who have experienced domestic abuse and 49 family members. We have also supported 54 practitioners with one-to-one advice.

  9. We have given input at strategic level to raise the profile of older victims, influencing policy and practice, for example: participating in the Welsh Government Communications Group – providing expert advice on the ‘Home Should Be a Safe Space’ campaign around older people; Contributing to the Welsh Government VAWDASV strategy.
  10. We presented our research at conferences, including adult safeguarding conferences: Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust Inaugural Safeguarding Conference; Annual Safeguarding Conference in Hampshire; Grampian VAWDASV Partnership conference.

  12. With dedicated funding from Moondance we have delivered online activities for our older clients.
